I've worked in and around private equity for a few years. Recently I moved into a seat where I invest in enterprise software companies and help operate them. Getting to focus on only software is a privilege; it allows me the opportunity to build industry knowledge and pay attention to what is actually changing.
Software is a fun thing to underwrite. The product never stops changing, but the customers tend to stay for years. That retention is the clearest evidence I know that something is truly worth what people pay for it.
I also build software for fun, mostly small tools that make something slow in my own life and work fast. It's made me a better investor, and it's how I meet the most entrepreneurial developers I know.
If you're building something in software, running one, or looking at one, I'm easy to reach and I read everything.
